The department of Surgery has two surgical units. Both the units cater for all types of General Surgical and Surgical Gastroenterology work. These are facilities to undertake prolene/mariex mesh repair of large recurrent inguinal and abdominal wall hernias. A great deal of Gastrointestinal and General Surgery oncology work is also done here. This department has done a large number of low anterior of resections for colon and rectal carcinomas with and without the use of staplers thus avoiding the need for permanent colostomies. The general outpatient work is mainly on Monday, Wednesday and Saturday. The other days of the week are operation theatre days. This department also admits and treats a large number of trauma cases especially those after major road traffic accidents.
Facilities for all minor and major surgeries except cardiac surgery. Coordinating with the department of Gastroenterology biliary and pancreatic surgery is also done very frequently performed using the C-arm whenever needed. Facilities for laparoscopic surgery are also available.
